History

In the fall of 1973, the members of Woodcrest Baptist Church, under the direction of pastor, Dr. Clarke Poorman, started Woodcrest Christian School, as an educational ministry of the church. WBA started with an enrollment of 30 students and used the Accelerated Christian Education(ACE) curriculum.

As the enrollment grew to over 100 students the educational approach changed from an individualized study method  to a traditional classroom style.   When that change was made, the ACE curriculum was replaced with the A Beka curriculum.

In November of 1975, a new educational wing was dedicated by the church and the school was renamed to Woodcrest Baptist Academy. In 1986 another addition was added to the facility.  That 10,000 sq. foot building expansion included a gymnasium, locker rooms, and concession area, along with additional office space and classrooms for the Academy.

In 2017, the church voted to embark on an expansion of both the church and the Academy, with an enlarged auditorium, a new band and choir room, the installation of an elevator and a new entry and foyer area. The construction was completed at the end of 2017.

WBA has been providing a Bible centered education for 50 years. God has greatly blessed the ministry of Woodcrest Baptist Academy, and we are grateful for the opportunity to serve God through the ministry of Christian Education.
